The Garena Young Lions are set to meet defending Great Eastern-Hyundai S.League champions Albirex Niigata FC (S) tomorrow.
The team has been producing encouraging performances of late and were rewarded with their first points of the season two matches ago, holding 2015 S.League winners Brunei DPMM to a goalless draw.
In their last game, the developmental side produced a dogged display but was edged 2-1 by Home United FC. Head Coach, National Youth Teams Richard Tardy credited the team for staying focused despite conceding an early goal from their opponents, commending their character as a team.
Coach Tardy, who is currently overseeing the Young Lions after previous Head Coach V. Selvaraj stepped down, told The New Paper that he believes his young charges will be able to give their opponents a tough fight.
He acknowledged the threat posed by the White Swans, who beat title challengers Tampines Rovers FC 4-1 in their last game, and was quoted in The New Paper saying: “From the first minute, we must be ready to run, and be prepared to defend more than attack. But we have a very good spirit, and we will do our best to post a good result.”
The match will kick off at 7.30pm at Jurong East Stadium.
